Now is not the time to be super-spiritual. Every single one of us, church leaders and church members alike need a fresh touch from God all of the time. We need to experience what Jesus explained to Peter when He tried to wash His feet. That we need a bit of washing and cleansing from walking around in the dirt and the heat all of the time.
I know what it is like to give everything you have to everyone all of the time. There are so many demands that come at you from all directions. Sometimes you want to run away, unplug the phone and just hear nothing but silence for a few moments. When your circumstances are overwhelming you, your fears are gripping you and the world is fighting with you, what is the best thing to do?
Well the world would say, "If the world fights with you, you just fight on back!"
Your boss would say, "Well if you had a bad weekend, leave your troubles at the door and do a good job."
Your friends would say, "Well we love you, but can't we just have fun instead of talking about negative things?"
And if your family is honest they would say, "You know what...just push through and be normal like everyone else."
Well after all this sound advice, have you considered what the Lord would say? I do not think that I could say it any better than King David did,: You will make known to me the way of life: in your presence there is joy that fully satisfies; at your right hand [there are] pleasures that last forever (Psalms 16:11 )
What you are looking for is right in front of your nose. What you need and hunger for deep inside is the presence of the Lord. But I know how it is. You come to read the word or perhaps to pray and you feel...nothing. Just absolutely nothing. Perhaps its your sin that is a problem. So you pray. Repent. Repent again...just in case. Again you feel...nothing. Is the Lord even out there?
It is around this time that most people give up and think that the Lord just went on vacation for a while. They press on and try to carry on with their load, feeling heavier and more discouraged.
